History

True Athlete Games was imagined and created by Coach David Braswell with the first TAG event held in 2014.  TAG was developed in response to the problem of everyday individuals seeking to improve and maintain their fitness, but not knowing how to nor why they should train with a more athletic approach to meet their goals.

Fitness events, more often than not, release all test details only a few days prior to the competition. This strategy doesn’t allow everyday people with any time to actually TRAIN and PREPARE for the entire event. In addition, those events change their tests from event to event — so there is no way of knowing whether you improved or not  because the events don’t have standardized movements to improve on. In other words, you can’t get better at chess by playing checkers.

TAG also aimed to establish a more level field for all body types. When fitness events use generalized tests and have all men and women, regardless of their body weight, lift, carry, pull, the same weight, this creates a disadvantage for individuals who are lighter or heavier than the rest of the field. A 100lb and 170lb woman shouldn’t be required to lift, carry, or pull the same amount of weight, unless they actually can safely.

So long(er) story short, David created an athletic fitness event with standardized movements that scored individuals based on overall performances and weight classes. Since the first TAG, it’s been pretty cool to see the progress that each participant has had with every TAG competition.
